Way Cool Stuff

My husband says I have too much STUFF.  I beg to differ.  I mean, when does having lots of stuff turn into having too much stuff?  And exactly when do we teeter over that razor thin edge?

My studio is a great place to ponder this question.  I will admit that each time I open the door, I am struck with all that’s crammed into every imaginable nook and cranny…kind of like my brain feels when I’m learning something new.  But I would assert that this very STUFF is exactly what every assemblage artist must have to be happy…productive…secure…worthy.  I have a need to gather – it’s a primal thing – and quite often it’s that newly acquired item that ignites my next creative frenzy.  Or sometimes rummaging through a forgotten bucket or drawer elicits a delighted yelp – a summons that it’s time for that particular object to finally find its calling.

I get it… my workshop  is always teeming with what many might think of as absolute junk.  Once, a vendor that I frequently buy from said, “You sure pick out some really weird stuff,” to which I replied, ” I’ll have you know that I’m very discerning and every item I buy is carefully selected!”  People just don’t understand…

But, I suppose my husband might have a point, especially this time of year when our accountant tells me to take inventory of all my materials.  IS SHE A FREAKING LUNATIC???  I have a mind to give her some paper and lock her up in my shop for a few days…

  2. Oh Lordy! I’ve just been in Pasadena, finding even more GOOD STUFF to use in future projects. Except for the seven inches of snow on my shop – burrrr – I’m raring to go!

  4. We drove home Sunday night, hearing about all the snow we would soon encounter…in the dark! Glad to be safely back home. I plan to make some progress on my shrine tomorrow…

  5. I am also a person with too much stuff, but I love it! I know what you mean about the fact that the latest thing can spark off ideas. And people who are ultra organised and minimalist don’t get that lovely surprise of rediscovery!
Thanks for your lovely welcome to the shrine project!
    Sarah 🙂
