Flea Market Treasures

My perfect day would definitely include wandering around a flea market.

Yeah…yard sales can be fun, but in my antique-store-filled town, there’s tons of competition…and way too much driving around in unfamiliar places.  Sometimes thrift stores offer up unique finds…for a price…but the swap meet is definately this 53 year old’s idea of a good time!

Ours is actually located in the next little town, so the anticipation while driving there is priceless.  Upon arrival, I am happy to park my car and leisurely stroll around, looking for whatever catches my fancy.  I have three objectives in mind as I’m on the prowl:

*to find things for home decor, yard art, or for my personal collections

*to select interesting resale items for my antique booths

*to find a variety of miscellany to keep my artwork fresh

Over the years, I’ve found the darnedest things…and occasionally universal energy converges to put something unbelievably precious or sweet in my hands.

About a year ago I went to the Rose Bowl Swap Meet – a major thrill in the life of this thrift monger - and  I spotted this lovely garden statue of the Santo Nino de Atocha.  On its tag was written “Woman in Chair.”  Shock and delight vied to get the upper hand in my mind, until I realized that this couldn’t be blasphemy if they knew not what that they had…

  1. I like that you get your objectives in order before you go shopping. Isn’t it just so much fun finding treasures? I don’t much go to yard sales or thrift stores or estate sales, but a lot of my bloggie friends do and they just find the best stuff. Sounds like it was a good day for you. That’s great. Have a wonderful rest of the week.

  2. Hi Dawn!
Welcome to my blog! I love your blog and find it so interesting.
Sure seems fun to have an antique shop and do art! My home is filled with antiques. I am having a estate sale tomorrow.
Come back soon.. Hey do you like, Frida Kahlo?.. I find her art amazing!

  3. all this questing…
i cannot help but ask, how’s your lent promise going??

  4. I am totally on track with my lent promise of shoe fetish removal…and it’s taken some real effort at times! I like the feeling of giving something up…of being mindful in that way. I’m thinking of giving different up something every month for awhile…keep your eyes peeled for future posts about that!

  5. Oh indeedy, I adore flea markets, yard/rummage sales, and thrift stores galore. In fact I often do try not to buy straight retail if I can avoid it (not that it always works out that way, but at least the intention is there ;-). I confess I’m not above dumpster diving and curb-crawling either, heh. It’s that whole ‘thrill of the hunt’ thing I think that’s so appealing…!

  6. What a great find! Love your blog. Thanks for visiting mine.

  7. This is a lovely find! How cool that you have so many different venues to find treasure!
