My Home Altar

Last year Mr. E. and I went to San Miguel de Allende for Dia de los Muertos with Rebecca’s
group, and it was amazing.

This year, we’re staying home…and today I decided to make my muertos altar.
I have general altar up all year, but I  decided to take everything off the shelves and start over.
I added lots of little toys,

candles and an Ocumichu figurine…

a vintage saltillo, mini papel picados, and the Virgin Of Guadalupe.

It’s a work in progress, but I feel great JOY that the process has been set in motion!

  1. oh dawn we did all have a glorious time in san miguel! your altar is looking lovely. our weather makes it so difficult to believe that dia de los muertos is so close at hand!

  2. your alter looks great! you make such wonderful things you can keep adding to it over time. I wish Mexico was a safer place to go. we would love to go back!

  3. I love your mini papel picado Dawn. Your altar is beautiful. I always say I’m making a smaller version and then every year it gets bigger. Don’t you find that? I love your ideas.

  4. Today, I’m taking three 20 x 30 canvases, printed with Day of the Dead dancer photos I took in SM last year, to my exhibit at the local Key Bank branch.

  5. It looks like a beautiful start…I have been looking back over photos from last year, cannot believe it’s been a year already!

  6. I do a May altar but had not thought of keeping an altar all year. There is always something wonderful to pay homage to in the world of joy. Thanks for sharing.

  7. You can feel the joy in the celebration of the lives lived by our loved ones who have crossed in your altar, Dawn. Enjoy your sweet remembering !

  8. Your altar is looking so festive! So cool that some of your art is included. The saltillo makes an amazing backdrop.
