20th Annual Art Show!!!

•November 7, 2013 • 19 Comments

Somewhere deep inside
Comes a mandate from my soul
Idle hands don’t fly!

This is the norm when I’m working steadily, getting ready for a show.

On Sunday, November 10th, my friend Von and I will participate in our
20th Annual Fine Arts Show and Sale
in her back yard.

We invite several artist friends to join us each year and have totally lucked out,
having decent to delightful weather for 18 of those  years.
The weather prediction for Sunday stands at 62*,
which delights me after initially seeing a prediction for 42* and rain!

If you’re in Prescott on Sunday, come by 206 S. Arizona Street (off East Gurley Street)
between 10-4.

There is always a music jam with our friends (around 1:00-2:00ish),
delicious refreshments,
and lots of great folks.
It’s a party…and now, a bonafide tradition!

Muertos Style

•October 28, 2013 • 1 Comment

This weekend was the Dia de los Muertos celebration here in town,
which was way cool!

They had vendors last year!
I remembered thinking  that my work would fit in well there…

so I called Cindy
– who is  going to be hard to identify later in street clothes –
and she said,”Come on  down!”

It was a great show and tons of fun.
Don’tcha love it when things work out just fine?

BBBS Art Fair – Tucson!

Maybe this can go somewhere
Make or break it time

This year, my dear friend, Sallie, and I have decided to do an outside art show side-by-side in Tucson.
It’s the Tucson Big Brothers and Big Sisters Organization’s biggest fund-raiser of the year…
and is my first solo act at a show of this type, ever!

Oh sure, I’ve done gallery shows at the Art’s Prescott Co-op,

and a three-person show at the Newman Gallery.

Another  friend and I have teamed up with other artists for a local fine arts and crafts show for the past 20 years
(where my medium has changed a few times)!

I’ve done a joint show in Santa Fe with my friend Leia,

and I did a two-person show at the Raven Cafe this past spring…
but this is the first time I’ll have my own booth!

I’ll be sure to report back on whether or not I’ll ever want to do it again!

Project Progress

 Master creator
Always working with his hands
Legacy is mine

I visited my mom and dad recently in the White Mountains of eastern Arizona.
Every time I go, my Dad (seen here at his recent Daddy-Daughter Show at the local college gallery),
requests that I bring a project that he can help with in his workshop.
We have father-daughter-shop-time – my favorite!

Dad has always worked with his hands, as a carpenter, cabinet maker, builder, and multi-media artist.
He’s a master at detail work and fine crafting.
So, I had him help me cut out wooden hearts and retablos.

 I primed them…which doesn’t look so great..
but one must be patient!

They’ll soon look something like this…

and finally morph into something like this

Wish I had the photos of this new batch ready to show, but they’re simply not sufficiently presentable yet.

Kitchy Plastic Angel

•September 30, 2013 • Leave a Comment

I just had to but this at my local Goodwill last week.
I mean, what maker and lover of Mexican folk art could resist a kitchy, plastic angel soap dispenser for $2?

I wonder…is it as cool as a plastic Jesus?

Daddy-Daughter Art Show

Daddy Daughter Show
Talent spewing from their pores
First one of its kind

I visited my family in Show Low, Arizona last weekend and was thrilled to be there while my Dad and my sister had a joint art show up at the Northland Pioneer College Gallery…a first of its kind.

My father, Vernon F. Reeves, age 85, is a talented painter, as well as an incredible wood carver and sculptor.

My sister can do anything…painting, drawing, sculpting, 3-D art, pen and ink…
and all extremely well.
She amazes me regularly.

They only had  a few days to get everything together…

and they did a dynamite job, I’d say!

It’s really very sweet, don’t ya know!

What a Year!

•September 18, 2013 • 2 Comments

This has been quite a year for art…

starting in January,
when I put 35 pieces in the Arabian Horse Show with a friend
and also got the call about doing a show at the Raven Cafe in May.

Then I did the Girl’s Incorporated Show In Santa Fe with my friend Leia in August,

and sold at the Home on the Range Gift Shop at the Range Cafe in Bernalillo on the way home.

Yesterday I stocked up the Newman Gallery in Prescott, where I’ve had my work since 2008,

and on Thursday I have a big load going to La Posada in Winslow.

At the end of October I’m doing a three-day Big brothers-Big Sister’s Show in Tucson with my dear friend, Sallie,

and not to forget the 20th annual Fine Arts and Crafts Show at my friend Von’s in early November!

I love having shows to look forward to…and deadlines really work for me…
but this has been unprecedented!
So much for being a part-time artist!

Focus Haiku

For better or worse
Focus on one area
To hell with the rest!

Oh sure, there are people who seemingly maintain “doing it all”…in fact, I think I used to be one of them!
But more and more, I find myself really focusing on one or two areas at a time…

my husband,

the house,

my antique booth,

the home front,

and my mini-job at a friend’s boutique …

only to let things lag in the other areas!

Ah, the circle of life…
yet it’s a pretty darn good one!

Art in the Window!

•September 9, 2013 • 1 Comment

I was walking by the Newman Gallery the other day and what to my surprise?
(Well, they do carry my work…)

I saw a favorite piece of my art work in the window…

one that I’m not even sure I should sell,
as it hung in my bedroom for a couple of years, at least!

Can you spot which piece it is?

Wee waif-like flowers
Blazing gems cast all about
Joy among the fray

and their blue cousins, are everywhere…
especially this year, after weeks and weeks of incredible monsoon rains!
