Mosaic Dresses

On Saturday, My Buddy Sal and I will be heading to Puerto Vallarta
to take a week-long mosaics workshop from master artist and teacher Susan Wechsler.

We will be staying at Hacienda Mosaico, run by Sam(antha) Leonard,
who moved down there from the states years ago,
and bought a small hotel where various art workshops are offered throughout the year.

Susan initially gave us a choice of different “nichos” to mosaic,
but later offered the option of making a mosaic dress,
which I was all over!
Check out Susan’s incredible website @

Here’s the naked dress form…

and most of the materials I’ve gathered so far.
Upon my return, I’ll be sure to share the finished product.

I adore traveling to Mexico,
but I absolutely abhor packing…
especially, in this case, for a whole different season.
The average daily temperature for Puerto Vallarta in February is 80*!

I bought a new Hard Tail skirt and Free People embroidered top for the occasion,
and paired them with my AG denim jacket.
I’m loving that mermaid thing goin’ on!

Then, I foraged in my studio
and grabbed a few of my favorite warm-weather-pieces for consideration, as well.
Looks like there will be another post (or 2 or 3 or 4 or 5) on this topic
coming  prior to departure!
I might need some help deciding what to take…
perhaps una margarita gigante will get my juices flowing appropriately…
