What Goes With This Skirt?

Do you have some pieces that are phenomenal, but you’ve never really figured out what you can wear with them?

I’ve had this Loco Lindo – aka Carmen Miranda – skirt for years and finally had the waistband redone to make it a wee bit shorter without affecting the bottom tier.
After that, I think I’ve worn it once!
So,
since I’ve challenged myself to wear shirts each week all summer,
I decide to see what I could find to match it up with.

I’m really liking these casual looks,
but dare I mix two very bold prints…
or no???

  1. I really like the skirt with the denim shirt tied at the waist and the “focus on the center” top. I’m not sure about mixing prints, although I know that it is all the rage. I prefer simple, yet I am trying to wear more prints. Mixing prints would be a giant jump for me.

  2. That is a gorgeous skirt, and I know what you mean about finding the right complement for certain pieces. I definitely like the second one best for the colors and textures. I know you’re trying out shirts, but what about a tunic and belt? Long and flowy and peace, love and understanding. :~)

  3. Great dare. Why not? Looks great. In fact, these all look great. I’m glad you were able to get that skirt into a wearable state. It’s fantastic.

  4. Gorgeous skirt! And I like all the tops, esp the denim shirt. Thanks for sharing with Vis Monday.

  5. Pretty skirt. Looks comfy. You were able to come up with several options. I like them all….including the pattern mixing.

  6. This piece would get away even with a simple white t-shirt!

  7. Great skirt, like all the tops but my favorite is the embroidered one.

  8. I am surprised by the number of options you found in your closet, and each works in its’ way. Your style is charming, and very upbeat.

  9. What a great skirt! I too like the denim shirt with it, maybe because it’s more fitted and the whole shape works better to me. I am sort of liking the checkered shirt as well. With a bit of jewelry? Or the (wait for it)……third piece!!

  10. I really like them all, but love the denim and the Free People tops the most, probably because I’m just matchy-matchy. When I see bold prints together on others, I usually like it, but when I try it at home I always feel ‘off’. I saw some middle aged guy at the gas station today wearing plaid shorts with a striped shirt, and I’m pretty sure he wasn’t trying to be trendy! ;)

  11. I love the look of the denim shirt and the free people one too. Looks great.

  12. I would opt for a white blouse and a pale yellow sweater. No. 1 look isn’t too bad.

  13. I like the embroidered one and the Free People one. I think the center interest on each of those blouses highlights the ethnic feel of the skirt.

  14. All nice choices, but particularly like the Lucky Brand red and the Free People gray! I have a piece or two that really need a good finishing-companion. I occasionally tuck them in a shopper and take them to the stores to look for go-with items. It’s what I call going “on quest!”
